YOGA FOR EVER YOUNG

Yoga is the science of right living and, as such,
is intended to be incorporated in daily life. It works
on all aspects of the person: the physical, vital, mental, emotional,
psychic and spiritual.
When learning the practices of yoga the guidance, of
a qualified yoga teacher is recommended. Yogananad R.Annaraj is
having 25 years of experience in the field of yoga . This book dedicated to
him by his students .since 1990 he has been participating in all India level
yoga competitions, representing TamilNadu. He is one of the
person who increases TamilNadu's position in the field of yoga
by doing 20 advanced asanas in 'Ekahastha Mayurasanam', posture.
In 'Ekahastha Mayurasanam', he rotates his body in clockwise as well as in anticlockwise direction. He is the first person to do this asana and still being the only person to do such asanas.
He practices regularly, more than 2500 advance asanas and also sathkriyas like

4. Jal kapalapathi
5. Jala neti
6. Sutra neti
7. Dhanda dhouthi

As well as rope yoga, jala yoga and mall kamp yoga. This
continuous practicing has made him to become one of the best yoga
instructor in India. Since 1990 he has been working as a yoga instructor
in Many Schools, Colleges, Institutions and also handling private classes .
He is the Founder and Co-ordinator of
SRI VEERA MARUTHI YOGA CENTRE (Regd),
Masakalipalayam,
Peelamedu,
Coimbatore-15.
Through his centre many of the Judges, Advocates,
Doctors, Industrialists, Entrepreneurs, Principals of many schools and
colleges are taking yoga therapy.
Many of his students have won Awards and Rewards in District,
State and also National Level Yoga Competitions which was held at various
places in India. People (of various age group) from other countries have
under gone yoga training .Apart from this some of the students are
working as yoga teachers in various schools and colleges. He admired many
of the people by his 25 years practices, depth experience and service
oriented mind.

YOGA INTRODUCTION :

Yoga is a unique Indian technique that helps for deep
awareness, promoting pure holistic life style; is an ancient science to
know our body and mind. Yoga is not a religion it is a philosophy of life based
on certain psychological facts, and its aim is the development of
a perfect balance between the body and the mind that permits
union with the divine i.e. a perfect harmony between the individual
and the cosmos.

YOGA MEANING :

The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit root; Yuj' meaning "to join".
It designates "The joining of the lower human nature to the higher in
such a manner as to allow the higher to direct the lower, or union with
the self yoga also signifies communication with the supreme universal
spirit to obtain relief from pain and suffering.

YOGA DEFINITION :

Patanjali Maharishi defined yoga as,
"YOGA CITTA VRITTI NIRODHAH" means controlling the modifications
of mind is yoga Bhagavat Gita says, "SAMATVAM YOGA UCHYATE",
meaning "Balance and equanimity is yoga".
"The younger, the old, the extremely aged, even the sick and the
infirm obtain perfection in yoga by constant practice. Success in yoga
is not obtained by mere theoretical study, or talking about it, reading
the sacred texts. Constant practice alone is the secret of its success".

Mainly there are four branches of yoga. They are,

1) Karma yoga
2) Bhakthiyoga
3) Jnanayoga
4) Raja yoga.

CLOSING PRAYER

CLOSING PRAYER:

"Yogena cittasya padenavaca

malam Sarirasya ca vaidyakena,

Yopakarottam Pravaram muninam

patanjalim Pranjaliranatoshmi

Om shanthi, shanthi, shanthi hi..."

Meaning:-

I offer my salutations with folded hands to patanjali, the renowned amongst the sages, who removed the impurity of mind through yoga, of the speech by grammar and of the body by sidha. Ohm peace peace peace.

SHANTHIASANA


SHANTHIASANA:

(Shavasana or corpse pose)
It is also called Mrtasana.

Sava or Mrta means a corpse.

Lie down on the floor like a dead body.

Adjust the parts of the body in their most comfortable position, which make differ for different practitioners.

This conscious relaxation invigorates and refreshes both body and mind.

This posture removes this fatigue caused by the other asanas and induces calmness of mind.

CHAKRASAN

CHAKRASAN:
(wheel pose)
In practicing this asana, the spine is twisted in such a way that the body forms a semicircular shape.

Hence this asana is called "Chakrasana".

It keeps our spinal cord more elastic.

Elasticity of the spine preserves youth for a very long time.
It strengthens the arms and wrists and gives great vitality, energy, and a feeling of lightness.

USTRASAN

USTRASAN:

(camel pose)

Ustra means a camel.

So this asana reveals a camel.

This asana activates the respiratory system and so it is beneficial to those who suffer from asthma.

removes pain in the neck, shoulders and the spine, improves eyesight.

It helps to remove headache and trouble in the voice and the tonsils

MATSYASANA

MATSYASANA:

(Fish pose)

'Matsya' is the Sanskrit word for fish.

The stiffness in the neck muscles and the dullness around the throat muscles can be removed by this.

It enlarges the thoracic cage and allows deeper breathing.

It is beneficial for asthma patient .It brightens up the face.

SARVANGASAN

SARVANGASAN:
Sarva means all, entire, whole, complete anga means limb or body, means the entire body or all the limbs.

In this pose the whole body gets benefit from the exercise, hence the name.

It is one of the greatest boons conferred on humanity by our ancient sages.

Sarvangasana is the mother of asanas.

HALASANA

HALASANA:
Hala means a plough, the shape of which this posture resembles hence the name.

It nourishes the blood vessels of the spinal column, the muscles of the back.

It strengthens the abdominal muscles.

PASCHIMOTTANASANA

PASCHIMOTTANASANA:

(Ugrasana or Brahmacharyasana)

It tones the kidneys, rejuvenates the whole spine and improves the digestion.

The excessive fat around the abdomen is reduced by practicing this asana.

It makes the body handsome and shapely.

DHANURASANA



DHANURASANA:
Dhanur means a bow.


The hands are used like a bow string to pull the head, trunk and legs up and the posture resembles a bent bow.


Therefore it is called Dhanurasana.


It gives a good massage to the abdomen so it cures prolonged constipation.


It reduces fat.


It exercises the intestines and increases the digestive power.

SALABASAN



SALABASAN:

Salaba means locust.

The pose resembles that of a locust resting on the ground, hence the name.

Since the spine is stretched back it becomes elastic and the pose relieves pain in the sacral and lumbar regions.

It gives new energy to the throat.

BHUJANGASANA



BHUJANGASANA:

Bhujanga means a serpent.

This removes spinal pain and cures other spinal disorders.

It cures constipation.

It stimulates our blood circulation.

It makes the body shapely.

PURNA AKARNA DHANURASANA



PURNA AKARNA DHANURASANA:


The practice of this asana gives full exercise to the joints of the hands and the legs, the muscles of the neck and the spine.


It revitalizes them.


It tones up the chest and the abdominal organs

AKARNA DHANURASAN



AKARNA DHANURASAN:

This asana resembles a string bow.

So it is called Akarna Dhanurasana.

The practice of this posture makes the leg muscles very flexible.

The abdominal muscles are contracted and this helps to move the bowels.

GOMUKHASANA

GOMUKHASANA:

(Cow face posture)

Go means a cow, Mukha means face.

Gomukha means one whose face resembles a cow.

The pose cures cramp in the legs and makes

the leg muscles elastic.

The chest is well expanded and the back becomes erect.

All the muscles and nerves are stimulated.

TOLASANA

TOLASANA:

(Utthithapadmasana)


Tola means a pair of scales.


This pose resembles one pan of the scales, hence the name.


It strengthens the wrists, hands and abdominal walls.


It reduces the abdominal fat.


It increases appetite.

BADDHA PADMASANA

BADDHA PADMASANA:

In this asana, the weight of the body is carried by the knees and the ankle joints.

So the joints of the legs become strong.
